Health Information
Phthalate plasticisers have
been safely used to soften PVC products for nearly 50 years without
a single known case of them having caused any ill-health effects in
humans.
They are among the most well researched of all chemicals and are
used in literally thousands of everyday products ranging from wall
and floor coverings to electrical cable insulation, clothes, toys
and life-saving medical products.
New studies on primates coupled with an understanding of the
underlying mechanism obtained by the use of genetically engineered
mice provide very strong evidence that the carcinogenic and
reproductive effects produced by phthalates in rodents are species
specific and of little relevance to humans.
